TheaterTreffPunktPrag, The Prague Theatre Festival of German Language, “Schluss mit Lustig”

At the invitation of the Goethe Institute, I had an opportunity to take part in the TheaterTreffPunktPrag, an international theatre platform – an event that was held for the first timeon 23–26 November 2018, as part of the festival in Prague. Participants in theTheaterTreffPunktPrag came from Central and Eastern Europe: Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. Each of these countries sent two professional theatre makers to Prague. We saw several productions shown at the festival and met their directors. We also had the opportunity to attend lectures on the support for theatre projects that is available in Germany. The topics of discussion with the German guests, first-class theatre makers, included current trends in drama, contemporary German drama, and the latest Czech edition of Theater der Zeit magazine. The aim of the TheaterTreffPunktPraginternational platform was to provide theatre makers with further education and networking opportunities and to stimulate the birth of new ideas that might result in coproduction projects in the future.

It was very inspiring to meet young people working in theatres in Eastern Europe and to exchange experience with them. I believe that the advantage of this platform was the diversity of experience shared by the participants, because it was not only artists who were invited but, more broadly, people with various roles and functions in the field of theatre: directors, producers, actors, directors of institutions, and curators. I am very grateful for this opportunity to meet and exchange ideas.
