The One Thousand and Second Night, C.K. Norwid, POLISH RADIO I

Cyprian Kamil Norwid’s  One Thousand and Second Night is a one-act comedy composed around a love intrigue. A man and a woman travelling through Italy stop at the same roadhouse. A storm is raging outside, and the guests’ souls are torn by love dilemmas. A night unlike any other – the one thousand and second night, as the main character of the play, Roger, describes it – becomes  the characters’  journey into themself and an attempt to work through the past. Roger, a wounded lover, is planning revenge. His plan fails, but completely new love prospects open up for him.

Full of humour and mature distance, The One Thousand and Second Night is a charming miniature provoking reflection on the changes of our hearts.

The textual layer of Norwid’s drama is marked by extraordinary musicality, which is why the radio play is richly illustrated with music composed specifically for this occasion by Grzegorz Łapiński.
