CATCH ME TOUCH ME, H. POŚWIATOWSKA, Bilkent Universitasi Ankara

Catch me, touch me was a physical theater based on Halina Poświatowska’s poem An Advertising Ploy. Cooperation with Turkish actors has given very interesting results. This cooperation and observing how polish poetry resonated with different culture and mentality allowed me to realize that in theater we should look for non-obviously international connections. We found tension between routine and perversion and on this base we created the story of relationship, using only actors’ bodies, music and voice recordings:

the world has gotten me down

            everything is old

            and nihil novi

            under the round shining one

brought you by the letter k:  knowledge

            — all of you go study the encyclopedia –

now i just want to lie flat

            and kiss the uneven fingernails

of your sticky and dirty hand

            — all of you go study the encyclopedia —

                       ladies and gentlemen married women

                       the encyclopedia instructs

                       the encyclopedia explains

                       the encyclopedia entertains

you can win a car in a giveaway

                       or an espresso

                       I want to sleep

                       on your naked hard shoulder

to fall deep — in there

                       where a brown ape

comes down from a swaying branch

                       becomes erect…

                       by effort by labor

            — all of you go study the encyclopedia —

                       clamp down your teeth harder

                       on my left shoulder

rip off the skin — it hinders

                       our taut muscles

from braiding — into the intertwined

                       people

            — all of you go study the encyclopedia —
