BALKAN STORIES, M. JERGOVIC, Teatr Nowy Poznań

The story based on The father (Otac) by Miljenko Jergovic tells about a falsified and displaced part of Balkans history – genocide committed by Catholic Ustasha on Orthodox Serbs, Jews and Gypsies.

Action takes place in a marvelous world, where present time mixes with the past and mystical time. In spite of the magical attitude, the process of recovering the memories and breaking family anathema is painful and difficult. Characters are stuck in the net of reliance and can’t leave purgatory.  They stay between guiltiness and disadvantage. Their collective existence slowly turns into a nightmare.

The spectacle oscillates around philosophical problems: the source of evil, responsibility for the felonies affecting the lives of next generations.
